The American alligator is a species of
special concern in Florida and a federally listed threatened species.
They prefer freshwater, but are found in brackish water where the
coast and inland waters meet. Young gators have yellow striped tails
that disappear with age. Alligators are distinguished from crocodiles
by the round shape of their snout. |
