This is the smallest of the mangroves, found most often mixed with other mangroves, along the edge of marsh and hammock. It is usually the first mangrove to seed in a disturbed or restored brackish wetland. It has no prop roots or pneumataphores, but under extreme oxygen limitations develops adventitious roots.
