North Inlet-Winyah Bay Reserve, South Carolina
Site Description
Habitats in the reserve include salt marshes, intertidal oyster reefs, mud flats, sand bars, tidal creeks, shallow sounds, abandoned rice fields and canals. Some special and unique features include Pumpkinseed Island-- one of the most important rookeries in the state for white ibis, great and snowy egrets and a variety of herons-- and North Inlet estuary, one of the most pristine areas on the East Coast.
